AFC Telford United Gavin Cowan wants pal and Chorley boss Jamie Vermiglio to win the league title
AFC Telford boss Gavin Cowan hopes former team-mate and friend Jamie Vermiglio can lead Chorley to the title – but not at the expense of the Bucks tomorrow.
The duo shared a dressing room with Telford between 2007 and 2009 and both began their first-team management careers last summer, taking their jobs a few weeks apart.
Vermiglio paid compliment to the hard-working Cowan ahead of Telford’s trip to the Lancashire leaders tomorrow and Cowan returned the favour by saying his counterpart has done a ‘phenomenal and unbelievable’ job.
Cowan feels the Magpies, who have Stockport County hot on their heels, can go all the way, but has his own job in securing a Bucks play-off berth.
“I’d love him to win the league,” said Cowan. “But it’s not at our expense – leave us to win tomorrow and (they can) win every game between now and the end of the season. There will all be welcomes and hugs but when the whistle blows we have a job.
“All the lads from that season I’m still in touch with. You have a togetherness and stay friends.”
