Gavin Cowan defends Telford fans over FA charge
Loyal boss Gavin Cowan has defended the actions of AFC Telford United supporters that landed the club in trouble with the Football Association.
The Bucks were handed a formal FA warning over fans spilling on to the pitch after Dan Udoh’s dramatic late winner in the FA Trophy quarter-final at Solihull Moors in February.
But Cowan said: “For me it’s about intention. I agree we should draw a line and supporters should not come on the pitch.
“But our fans did not come on to cause an injury or for anything else sinister.
“Our supporters have had a club down in the doldrums for four years and we’ve scored a goal to give ourselves a chance to get to the semi-final of the FA Trophy, a national competition.
“It was just emotion that spilled over in the corner where our player happened to celebrate.
“The fans have been phenomenal. They’ve been loyal to me so I’ll be loyal to them.
“It’s intent you’ve got to look at, it was just sheer euphoria.”
