Ryan Barnett hopes to help see AFC Telford United over the finish line in the play-off race – and boost his Shrewsbury standing.

The 19-year-old has relished his loan spell away from Salop, being one of the most consistent performers for the Bucks, whose fate will be sealed on the final day of the campaign this weekend.

They are travelling to York and are at present outside the National League North play-offs on goal difference, but will make it if they better Bradford Park Avenue’s result at Chorley or, if they both lose, if Avenue’s margin of defeat is two more.

And Barnett, who has starred at right wing-back, wants to repay Telford chief Gavin Cowan for giving him a chance to shine.

“Coming here has been massive for my development, and I have helped Telford too,” said Barnett.

“Coming here has been great. Gav has been positive and it is good to have a manager who believes in you.

“He has given me the confidence to play well, and I have done in the last few months and hit form at the right time.

“And I hope I’ve done enough to break in at Shrewsbury. My focus is on York and the play-offs if we get there, but longer than that, I hope to get back to Shrewsbury and show what I can do in pre-season, and hopefully the manager has a choice to make.

“It’s going back, giving it my all and coming back fit.

“All I can do is put it in the manager’s head that he can’t send me out on loan, you’ve got to put those ideas in his head for him to make a decision.”

Barnett has made 23 league appearances for the Bucks this term, scoring once.
