Matty Stenson repaid AFC Telford faith by staying put
Loan striker Matty Stenson revealed he extended his stay at AFC Telford United to repay the loyalty shown by Gavin Cowan and supporters.
Solihull Moors forward Stenson this week re-committed to Cowan’s Bucks on a second loan, signing until the end of the season.
Stenson, 25, admitted he had offers further up National League North but he could not turn down a Telford extension.
“I’m really happy, all I want to do is play football,” Stenson said. “The fans took to me from day one and were one of the main reasons I’ve stayed.
“I bought into Gav straight away with what he wants to do. He’s very, very passionate, he loves football, he loves Telford and wants to get it going in the right direction.
“He wants the best for me as an individual and I am a loyal person so I wanted to stay loyal to him.”
The Bucks welcome Blyth Spartans tomorrow.
Stenson, who so far has three goals in 12 starts for Cowan’s men, has won plaudits from Telford fans for his hard work and energy in attack.
The frontman was prolific at both Barwell and Leamington before earning his big move to the National League Moors.
He added: “He (Cowan) wants me to find my form from before I went to Solihull. He wants me to play in the Football League, to help me get there.
“If I can follow in the footsteps (of Daniel Udoh at Shrewsbury) then I’ll be very pleased.”
