AFC Telford United with plenty of squad building left to do says Kevin Wilkin
AFC Telford United boss Kevin Wilkin says there is plenty of squad-building still to be done this summer.
The Bucks already have seven players tied down for next season, but Wilkin says his ideal squad size would be 18.
Brandon Hall, Orrin Pendley and Nathan Fox have all joined after leaving their previous clubs.
Whereas the Bucks have tied down Jordan Piggott, Brad Bood, Byron Moore and Montel Gibson – who were all members of Telford’s team that were relegated from the National League North – to fresh terms at the New Bucks Head.
Last season was a difficult one for the Shropshire side but they are now preparing for life in the Southern Central Premier.
“You would like a squad of 16-18,” the boss said about building his team for next year.
“With 18 being an ideal number to be going in with for a season.
“We have got to try to make the budget extend that far and work that far with as much quality as we can.
“With the nature of the level we are going into, I think it is a little bit more fluid in certain ways with regards to players.
“There can be non-contract situations where people do tend to move around a little bit more.
“We are going to continue to work for that – we have a base to work from now – and hopefully we will grow that in the coming days and weeks.”
Wilkin’s side get their pre-season campaign on under way with a trip to Racing Club Warwick on July 8.
