Double injury blow for Telford
AFC Telford United have been hit with a double injury blow, as key defensive pair Ellis Myles and Alex Gudger prepare for spells on the sidelines.
Myles, 31, was withdrawn from Telford’s 3-1 win at Stamford after just ten minutes with a knee injury, while Gudger, 32, left the Bucks’ 3-1 defeat to Kettering Town on Tuesday at half time with a groin problem.
Ahead of this afternoon’s FA Trophy tie at Hadley, Telford have just thirteen senior players available, and Wilkin could not hide his disappointment at losing two trusted figures, who he worked with at Brackley before joining the Bucks, to injury.
“Alex has got a groin strain so it’s highly unlikely he’ll be fit for Saturday, and Ellis Myles has picked up a knee ligament injury so again, he won’t be fit,” the Bucks boss said. “It kind of leaves us a little bit stretched after obviously having two players cup tied (Jordan Cranston and Reece Styche).”
Wilkin added: “They’ll be a few weeks at the best I would imagine. Definitely for Ellis, and then Alex we need to get him assessed again early on next week to get a better idea of where he’s at with his groin.”
In a sign of how desperate times have got at the SEAH Stadium, Wilkin also revealed that he will struggle to be able to promote any of the club’s under-18 talents due to them struggling for numbers too.
“There have been discussions around looking at getting a few of the under-18s to step up,” he explained. “Unfortunately Archie (Elsdon) is injured at the moment, and we’re trying to see if Harvey Solley will be available to us.
“Outside of that they’re a little bit stretched as well, so it’s not an ideal place to find ourselves in personnel wise.”
