Tony Xia hoping for four new faces at Aston Villa with Henri Lansbury first

Villa are targeting 'seven or eight' players in the hope of bringing 'three or four' to the club in the transfer window, according to owner Dr Tony Xia – with Henri Lansbury set to be the first in the door.

Both Xia and chief executive Keith Wyness took to social media yesterday to allay any fears among supporters after a barren spell in terms of signings since the transfer window opened. Villa have been heavily linked with several players but have yet to complete a deal.

The most advanced is for Nottingham Forest's Henri Lansbury, with a £3million bid last night reportedly accepted.

The midfielder must undergo a medical before he can join Villa on a reported £40,000-a-week deal.

Barnsley defender James Bree is also high on the target list as is current Oakwell team-mate Conor Hourihane.

However, with fans desperate to see the claret and blues close the gap on the play-off places, Villa's top brass have sought to assure fans they are working hard to bring in the right men.

Xia tweeted: "Working hard every day now. About 7-8 targets ongoing but if we could get 3 done, then it's not bad result. If 4, would be great."
