Haughmond boss Matt Burton full of praise for his FA Cup heroes
Haughmond boss Matt Burton has heaped praise on his players and the supporters after a ‘phenomenal’ 1-1 draw at Boston United in the FA Cup.
Being three divisions below the hosts, the Mond were expected to lose this second qualifying round tie at York Street – but they had Scott Ryan slot home after Jan Yeomans’ opener.
They were also denied a penalty for what appeared to be a blatant case of handball, and the replay will take place tomorrow night at Shrewsbury Sports Village (kick-off 7.45pm).
Burton said: “It is fantastic that we have gone to a proper football club, and a proper football ground, and got a result.
“To fill a coach and take 60 or 70 fans up there as well, it was a great occasion.”
This time a decade ago, Boston had just been relegated to the Conference after five seasons in the Football League while Haughmond were in the Shropshire County League.
“We were playing in the County League while Boston were in the Football League so to get a draw at their place is phenomenal,” added Burton.
