Haughmond hoping for a big gate for FA Cup replay
Haughmond boss Matt Burton is hoping for a bumper crowd as they host Boston United in an FA Cup second qualifying round replay tonight.
The Midland Premier side pulled off a surprise 1-1 draw against the National League North outfit at York Street on Saturday, with Scott Ryan’s smart finish cancelling out Jan Yeomans’ opener for the home side.
This is the furthest Haughmond, who were in the Shropshire County League 10 years ago while the Pilgrims had just been relegated from the Football League, have ever gone in the competition. The clash takes place at Shrewsbury Sports Village (kick-off 7.45pm).
“We will need a big crowd behind us and cheering us on,” said Burton. “It is very difficult to go out and perform against a team of Boston’s calibre twice in four days. We will need all the support, all the effort and all the luck that we can get. The main thing I am looking for is that we turn up and give a good account of ourselves.”
He added: “We know it will be very hard, but we are not going in thinking that we are going to lose.
“We are going to give it our all and it should be a great occasion.
“We are really looking forward to it and if you give a good account of yourselves, you never know.”
