Haughmond have spot of bother in loss to Loughborough
A controversial first-half penalty was enough for Loughborough Dynamo to clinch all three points from Haughmond.
The tight Shrewsbury Sports Village clash was decided by Alex Read’s penalty two minutes into time added on as the referee judged Read had been downed by Haughmond shot-stopper Sam Jones.
The official overruled his assistant referee who had pointed for a goal kick. Read sent Jones the wrong way from the spot.
Scott Ryan went closest for the hosts in the first period but despite a second-half onslaught, Matt Burton’s side were unable to snatch an equaliser. Haughmond sit 16th in the Total Motion Midland League Premier.
Shawbury’s rotten luck continues as they suffered an eighth defeat from nine to stay bottom.
Dave Richard’s depleted side fell to a 2-0 defeat at Long Eaton United after dominating much of the tight encounter.
Jack Atkinson pulled off a fine first-half penalty save for Shawbury while, with 20 minutes remaining, the visitors were denied a spot-kick before their Derbyshire hosts broke down the other end and Tyrell Shannon fired in an opener.
Shannon netted a late second goal after Shawbury had Matt Ballard sent off.
