The appointment of Steve Frisby as AFC Bridgnorth manager will bring a wealth of experience, according to club chiefs.

Secretary Steve Groome said that the former Bridgnorth player and boss – who last took charge in 2004 – was the board’s unanimous decision to replace the outgoing Steve Broome and Jason Pike.

The Crown Meadow side, who lost their previous 11 games under Broome and Pike, welcome second-bottom Dudley Town in the West Midlands Premier Division tomorrow in what Groome labelled ‘a six-pointer’.

“It was a reasonably amicable meeting. Both Steve and Jason did a really good job in more than trying circumstances, I want to thank them for their efforts,” said Groome.

“Steve will bring in a wealth of experience, he is a supporter of the club and has always followed us.

“He will be supported by Paul McMullen, who has come in from Market Drayton Town. It’s a while since Steve has managed but he’s never lost touch. For the first few games the team will be the same then we will see one or two changes.”

Outgoing boss Broome said: “Results have been hard to come by. It was the best for all parties that the club moved in a different direction.

“The new manager has a task on his hands and I hope he can access resources that Jason and I couldn’t.”

Elsewhere in the top flight, Ellesmere Rangers – who this week kept boss Richard Brown from the grasp of Market Drayton Town – head to Dudley Sports.

Rangers sit seventh, seven points off the top spot currently held by Tividale.

Mark Wells’ Shifnal Town, who sit 14th, are preparing for a mid-table tussle as they visit 12th-placed Bilston Town Community.

Steve Barrow and Juan Dopazo’s Wellington Amateurs, who are bottom, welcome Smethwick.

Division One sees Allscott host Willenhall, Telford Juniors face Tipton Town and third-placed Wem Town visit Bromyard.
