Keeper Ash Rawlins a doubt for Market Drayton
Goalkeeper Ash Rawlins expects to be ruled out of Market Drayton Town’s derby at Newcastle Town tomorrow – with a broken wrist suffered BEFORE the 4-1 weekend home defeat by Trafford.
Town manager Martyn Davies said Rawlins was awaiting a medical assessment of the seriousness of his injury.
“He’s still not sure but it seems pretty certain that he played against Trafford with a broken bone in his wrist,” he added.
“He was hurt during shooting in before the game but after some treatment played anyway – and he did very well despite them scoring four.
“We’re still awaiting a definitive report from the medics but as things stand it’s a suspected broken bone and he does not expect to be fit for Newcastle.”
Rawlins missed much of last season with a shoulder injury but has been a stand-out performer in Town’s games this season and gave no sign of being troubled on Saturday, when he made several fine saves.
Town were not at their best defensively and, while the goalkeeping spot is now a problem for Davies, he will be happy to welcome back two of his strongest back four players, Paul McMullen and Simon Gregory.
Davies was in no mood for excuses when he reflected on the scale of his side’s 4-1 home setback.
“We had a really bad first half and deserved what we got,” he said. “They were at it and we were not. The great shame for us was it should be at home, where we’ve been doing well.”
