Haughmond back in the grove against Bewdley

Dan Williams was looking for a positive response to last week’s defeat when they took on Bewdley Town at the Sports Village on Saturday.

Bewdley were looking to do the double over the Shrewsbury side after beating them 3-1 back in November

Haughmond selected the same starting eleven from the Black Country game but added Harry Morris and Christian Oldham to the squad after long term injuries.

The home side were straight into their stride passing the ball well and dominating the early possession and it was no surprise when they opened the scoring with a Jack Griffiths header at the far post after a Dave Howells corner had evaded everyone on its way to the Haughmond skipper.

The home side went looking for the second and created a number of chances including one stand out effort attacking on the break and Scott Ryan rattling the bar with a volley from a stunning Matt Fletcher cross.

Despite the domination it remained 1-0 going into the break and Bewdley are too good not to reshape and come back and this they did in the second period and it was the home side that had to soak up some pressure and try and hit on the break, Harry Morris was sent on which gave Haughmond a more attacking threat and try as they might Bewdley could not get beyond a resolute Haughmond back four for whom George Carpenter was the stand out player

Dan Williams will be pleased with the way his players responded against a good Bewdley team but will know they have to find a winning formula playing away from home on pitches that do not match the quality of the Sports Village playing surface if they are to challenge Tividale for the Title.

Tuesday night sees Haughmond travel to Ludlow to play Shawbury in the League Cup last eight before they play Tividale away next Saturday.
