Missed chances cost Market Drayton dear against leaders
Market Drayton Town were left wondering what might have been after falling to a narrow defeat to North West Counties Division One South leaders Stafford Town.
Matt Hearsey got the only goal for the visitors who will spend Christmas five points clear at the summit.
But they were pushed all the way by Drayton, who saw Nick Parker have an equaliser chalked off for a marginal offside call and had other chances to claim a point.
Parker went close shortly after having his strike disallowed but there was to be no breakthrough for the Shropshire club, who sit ninth in the table and will be aiming to end a run of three straight defeats when they host Abbey Hulton United on Saturday.
There was frustration for Whitchurch Alport, who saw their Midland League Premier fixture with Tividale postponed due to waterlogged pitch. They host Stone Old Alleynians on Boxing Day, with a noon kick-off.
Shifnal Town’s match at Northwich Victoria also fell victim to the weather with the former now having not played since December 3 due to postponements. They will hope for better luck on Boxing Day, when they are scheduled to host Wolves Casuals in a 1pm kick-off.
In Division One, AFC Bridgnorth were unable to make it back-to-back wins as they were beaten 2-0 at Kirby Muxloe.
