A controversial penalty denied Shrewsbury Town a priceless home victory over League Two promotion rivals Port Vale.

Mat Sadler was harshly adjudged to have fouled Tom Pope and Marc Richards was on hand to rifle home from the spot in the 82nd minute.

Vale had taken a 29th minute lead through Richards who headed home an in-swinging free-kick from Kris Taylor.

But Shrewsbury level through a 15-yard effort from Lionel Ainsworth a minute later and took the lead thanks to a James Collins strike on 73 minutes, a lead they held until the drama eight minutes from time.
