Shrewsbury Town's historic promotion was the crowning achievement of teenage winger Jon Taylor's short professional career so far.

But the experience has inspired the 19-year old former youth team captain to make sure it is only the first of many.

The atmosphere inside Greenhous Meadow last Saturday and the celebrations that followed the final whistle have left a major impression on the Liverpool-born player.

He said: "Words can't describe the moment when we got promoted.

"When the fans ran on the pitch and then we were upstairs in a box and everyone started singing 'We are going up, say we are going up,' it was the best feeling

"I can't explain how it felt, looking down and seeing the thousands of people singing our names.

"People will say promotion is the best thing ever but, now it has happened trust me, it's the best thing, and it just drives you on to just want more because that was excellent."

Taylor, who came off the bench in the final minute of normal time on Saturday, was also quick to highlight the roles of manager Graham Turner, the coaching staff and in particular chairman Roland Wycherley in securing League One football next season.

The wide man said: "The gaffer and the chairman and all the coaching staff have been excellent.

"They have helped us all the way and I'm made up for the chairman because he loves the club and he wears his heart on his sleeve.

"He's never put any pressure on anyone. He's always relaxed. The chairman is not putting pressure on the gaffer, the gaffer is not putting pressure on the players.

"The players know what they've got to do. The players know what they want to do and it makes everything easier – and we've done it now, so it's excellent."

Having enjoyed only his second full season of League Two football, Taylor is now looking forward to testing himself at the next level.

He said: "There's loads of big clubs that we will be looking forward to playing."
