Shrewsbury Town boss Graham Tuner confident goals will come
Graham Turner is confident Shrewsbury Town will convert their chances into goals as they aim to get off the League One mark against Preston tonight.
Town have created a number of opportunities in the opening two competitive games of the season, including having an effort disallowed and striking the post at Sheffield United on?Saturday, but are still waiting for their first goal.
Turner yesterday revealed moves to bring in a striker before the 1-0 defeat at Bramall Lane fell short.
But he is confident his team will soon earn rewards for their encouraging build-up play.
"We are having a lot of the ball and we are using that possession to good purpose," he said.
"What we have to do is keep the belief and keep creating chances because, sooner or later, they will start to go in.
"We have players capable of scoring goals and if we create chances, that's three-quarters of the battle."
Turner insisted the burden for goals should be shared across the entire team.
"We have defenders going up for set plays and we are entitled to see a goal from them occasionally, as well as front players, wide players and midfield players," he added.
Preston are among the favourites for promotion this season after a major summer overhaul instigated by manager Graham Westley.
And, despite being held to a home goalless draw by Colchester on Saturday, Turner knows the Lancashire club will represent a major challenge in what has proved a testing start to the season.
"They will be organised, fit and strong and I expect it to be as tough a game as any we are likely to face," added Turner, who reported no injury problems and could name an unchanged line-up.
Town officials are expecting a crowd of around 6,500 for the first home game of the campaign.
