Sam Winnall keen to extend loan at Shrewsbury Town

The 21-year-old has completed three weeks of his first month's temporary move from Championship outfit Wolves. Winnall has started just two games because of a hamstring injury suffered in the goalless League One draw at Brentford at the start of the month.

And, while much will depend on talks between the two clubs, Winnall has stressed he would be delighted to remain at the Greenhous Meadow for longer than the initial month.

"I would like to stay," he said. "It's a good club, a good set-up and I like how things are done here.

"The injury has been unfortunate but hopefully I can get back in the team and playing.

"I think the aim from Wolves for me this season is to get me out on loan and playing so, if everybody is happy with me here, hopefully I can stay."

Winnall was initially expected to be sidelined for around three weeks but has made a faster than expected return and began joining in training on Monday.

And he is now hoping to put himself in contention for a place in the 18-man squad for the trip to Fratton Park this weekend.

"It's nice to be back playing and kicking balls," added Winnall, who has had loan spells with Burton, Hereford and Inverness in the past 18 months.

"Full credit to the medical staff, they have done a really good job with me and got me back ahead of schedule which is fantastic.

"When it was first scanned it was between two and three weeks and it was a day under two weeks that I got back into training.

"I have felt fresh and I've had no problems so hopefully I will be available for Portsmouth.

"It's really frustrating getting injured when you only have a month's loan.

"But hopefully I can come through unscathed and be on the coach for Saturday."
