Blog: Belief back for Shrewsbury Town after comeback
Shrewsbury showed great character and determination to come from behind to salvage what could be a crucial point come the end of the season writes Town blogger Robert Roden.
What a transformation from the previous home defeat at Yeovil. Town showed a lot more commitment and passion throughout the game and, despite not being at the races for the first 75 minutes, they stuck in and got their rewards and could have even stolen the points late on.
Asa Hall's double in three minutes got Salop back on level terms and right at the death Jon Taylor missed the best chance of the game which would have capped off his outstanding display. It's his best performance I've seen from him at the club and hope he soon breaks his duck on the score sheet.
There was a lot of talk before the game regarding captain Matt Richards and whether he needed a rest from the starting line-up. Richards started the game in his favourable centre midfield role and didn't have the best of games in comparison to his high performances last season.
I think the captaincy has put some strain on the 27-year old and he may be having a few weeks out of the starting line-up. I know it's a big call to drop your captain, but if you're not producing the goods then you have to face the consequences.
The two loan players, Jeremy Helan and Jamie Proctor added a bit extra to the side that had been lacking. Helan added some much needed pace and creativity on the wing and Proctor held the ball up well, bringing other players into the game.
Both players have been granted clearance for the FA Cup tie away at Hereford which is great news for Salop and the same applies for Lee Collins, whose loan has been extended by an extra month.
Despite only one victory in October, Salop will travel down the A49 for their FA Cup tie against Hereford with the belief and confidence after the comeback on Saturday.
