Paul Parry looking for Shrewsbury Town starting spot
Paul Parry hopes he has nudged Graham Turner into handing him a recall to Shrewsbury's starting XI against Crewe tomorrow.
The experienced attacker has been forced to hold a watching brief after the Town boss rang the changes following the FA Cup exit at Hereford a fortnight ago.
But versatile Parry, 32, briefly helped his side back into the game when he came off the bench at Leyton Orient last weekend. And with young
French loanee Jeremy Helan struggling for form, the former Welsh international could be back in the fray for the Greenhous Meadow derby.
"Results haven't been going our way and if the gaffer is looking to make changes, I've got to make sure I've put my name in his thoughts," said Parry.
"It's not nice to be out of the team as you want to do everything to help the team pick up points. But all I can do is work hard on the training ground and hopefully my chance will come around again."
Chepstow-born Parry was an influential performer earlier in the season after being reunited with his former Hereford boss Turner on his departure from Preston.
While he has chalked up around 450 appearances over a 15-year career, including 12 Welsh caps, he accepts that pedigree alone won't secure him selection.
"I've to make sure I'm giving 100 per cent every day in front of the manager," he added.
"There's quality and competition for places. No-one is going to be taking their position for granted. If you don't perform, you will be out of the team."
Parry was in the Town side which went out of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy at the hands of Crewe last month and noted: "They've got some good young players and they pass the ball around well, but we've got to be concentrating on what we do.
"We've got two home games coming up (MK Dons on Tuesday) and we want the fans right behind us to give us that extra push.
"Results over the last month haven't gone our way and we've been conceding a lot of goals.
"If everyone does the right things, it is sure to turn around."
