Taylor injury blow for Shrewsbury Town

Shrewsbury boss Graham Turner fears the worst after in-form winger Jon Taylor picked up a hamstring injury in last night's 2-2 draw at Bury.

The Liverpudlian limped off in the closing stages at Gigg Lane after he had handed Town a 2-1 lead.

But they were denied their first away success of the campaign by a last-minute equaliser from Shakers' skipper Steve Schumacher. And, to make matters worse, they are likely to be without Taylor – who has scored in each of Shrewsbury's last three games – over the holiday period.

"It looks as though Jon might have tweaked a hamstring, which looks pretty serious with the games coming thick and fast. We just hope it's not too bad and he's not missing for too long," said Turner.

Taylor produced another eye-catching finish to put Town ahead after Aaron Wildig's first-minute opener was cancelled out swiftly by Wolves loanee Matt Doherty.

Marvin Morgan spurned two fine chances and Town were left defending grimly at the death before the three points were snatched from their grasp by Schumacher's header.

"It was frustrating because we invited pressure by giving the ball away," said Turner.

"We'd defended the corners and crosses well until then. Then everything was coming straight back at us. I've never known a side give the ball away so frequently when we needed to take the sting out of the game.

"We kept passing the ball to the opposition, which baffles me as we've got good passers in the side.

"But maybe we'd have settled for a point before the game. Sometime, though, we've got to start winning our away matches and never was there a better chance to do that than this. We scored two goals away from home and that should be enough to get you a victory."

Shrewsbury benefited from Turner's half-time tactical switch, which saw Taylor switch to the right flank from where he delivered his third finish in the last three games.

"It was a terrific run and great strike," said Turner.
