Shrewsbury not renewing Chris Porter loan

Shrewsbury Town today opted not to renew striker Chris Porter's loan at the Greenhous Meadow.

The experienced frontman has returned to Sheffield United after scoring once during his one-month stint with Town.

But boss Graham Turner today admitted he is keen to extend fellow loan striker Tom Eaves' stay after the impact the 21-year-old has made up front.

Eaves, who has scored three time in five appearances, is available for tomorrow's League One trip to Crewe.

But Turner will need to talk to Bolton boss Dougie Freedman next week to see whether he can have the forward's loan extended.

Turner confirmed: "Chris Porter has gone back to Sheffield United. It was unfortunate he missed a couple of games through injury.

"We would like to extend Tom's loan, it would be a very big thing for us if we could do that.

"Bolton might want to put him in their Championship side to give him a taste of it, so we will have to see how that goes."

Town have no fresh injury problems for their derby clash at Gresty Road, although Jermaine Grandison has had a setback on the road to recovery from a pelvic problem.

The defender has had a course of injections in a bid to beat the long-standing injury which has kept him out since the middle of January.

Turner had hoped he would be available for the Crewe game, but he is now targeting a return to training next week.

Meanwhile, Turner is hoping rivals Crewe will have one eye on the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Final at Wembley next month.

Salop have a good recent record at the South Cheshire venue, where they haven't been beaten since 1996.

Turner said: "We should have had Crewe watched on Tuesday night but their game against Sheffield United was frozen off, so they have had an opportunity to take a break.

"They have made it to the Johnstone's Paint final, hopefully their minds will be drifting towards that."
