Striker Luke Rodgers quits Shrewsbury Town

Shrewsbury Town striker Luke Rodgers quit the club today after failing to win his place back in the starting line-up.

The club confirmed the veteran, 31, has left the club by mutual consent after thrashing out an agreement on the remainder of his contract.

Rodgers had initially rejoined Town on loan last November and made an impact in a struggling team, scoring in his third game back - a 2-2 draw against Milton Keynes Dons.

It encouraged boss Graham Turner to offer him a deal until the end of the season. But Rodgers struggled to hit previous heights and he could only add one more goal to his tally in another 12 appearances.

"The club would like to thank Luke for his contribution during his second spell here and wish him well for the future," said a Shrewsbury statement.
