Shrewsbury Town poised to complete loan swoops

Shrewsbury Town boss Graham Turner is closing in on a double deal before the loan deadline.

Defensive problems have piled up for Salop in recent weeks with loan-men Cameron Gayle and Rob Edwards sidelined with hamstring and thigh injuries respectively.

And as the Town boss is reluctant to draft long-term absentee Jermaine Grandison back in for the Easter programme, he has targeted a defender he is confident he can land before Friday's trip to Carlisle.

He is unlikely to rest on his laurels, too, with Shrewsbury's League One future still at stake and says he won't rule out using the loan market again to strengthen his squad before 5pm tomorrow.

"There's a possibility one will be in, but we're looking at two," said the Town manager. "I've agreed with an agent and the player and we're just trying to sort the deal out with his club now. l'll take nothing for granted, but it does look like it will go through.

"We're short of defenders at the moment. With Cameron, Jermaine and Rob all missing it's left us weak at the back."

Gayle looks likely to have played his last game for Shrewsbury after limping off in the 1-1 draw at Crewe 11 days ago.

A scan revealed a grade two tear and Turner says it will probably rule out the chance to get him fit for a return in blue and amber.

"It looks like it will be at least another month for Cameron and there's the prospect he won't play again this season. By the time he recovers from his injury it will leave him little time to get match fit," said Turner.
