Shrewsbury Town defender Darren Jones set to miss rest of the season
Shrewsbury Town defender Darren Jones could be out for the rest of the season after dislocating his shoulder in yesterday's 2-2 draw at Carlisle.
The Welshman was in agony as he was helped off at Brunton Park before being rushed to hospital.
Boss Graham Turner suspects he will miss the rest of the campaign.
Town are already likely to be without Cameron Gayle and Rob Edwards for the rest of their League One games.
That make Turner's decision to bring in West Brom full-back James Hurst before Thursday's deadline particularly timely, especially as Jermaine Grandison is yet to prove his fitness after more than two months out.
"It looks like Darren has dislocated his shoulder and that could keep him out for the rest of the season," said Turner.
"We're down to the bare numbers and the deadline has gone, but it's something we'll have to face.
"Connor Goldson went in at the deep end and did OK."
With Hurst starting his second loan spell with Town at right-back, Goldson came on to replace the anguished Jones as Shrewsbury took control in a goalless first 45 minutes.
Meanwhile, Turner urged his side to build on yesterday's set-piece first senior goal from centre-back Yado Mambo.
"It's time we got goals from our centre-halves when they go up for set-pieces," said Turner. "We'd hope for one or two more from set-plays before the end of the season."
Turner selected Steve McGinn ahead of Dave McAllister in central midfield and admitted the latter needed a rest, while he thought McGinn deserved his chance.
"We have another game on Monday and I think Dave needed a rest," he said.
"He's been struggling for form a little bit of late despite working hard and Steve's a good player.
"He's had to be patient but him and Luke (Summerfield) did well for us."
The draw left Town 18th, five points clear of the drop zone with six games left. But Oldham, who are in the final relegation position, have two games in hand on their rivals.
