Mark Wright's season may be over at Shrews

Shrewsbury Town manager Graham Turner fear winger Mark Wright may be out for the rest of the season with the hip injury sustained in training.

The injury-hit wide man had only just returned to Shrewsbury's first-team as a substitute in the closing minutes against Crawley on Easter Monday after a four-month spell on the sidelines because of a knee injury.

But a hip injury suffered in training has put him back on the sidelines and Turner admitted he may not feature again this season.

He said: "The season is over two weeks on Saturday. He has damaged his hip, this time in a collision with one of the other players in training.

"It looks like it is going to be another four or five days before he can start training with the rest of the squad again.

"The fear is that he won't play again this season. We have got the chance of a reserve game, we have got quite a congestion of reserve fixtures still to pla.

"There is a chance he might get something there or maybe an appearance in the last one or two first-team games but it's looking doubtful, at the moment."

Defender Jermaine Grandison's prospects of a first-team return are looking far more optimistic though.

The 22-year old ex-Coventry stopper could make his comeback from a pelvic injury this weekend – providing he comes through a reserve-team clash at Tranmere Rovers today.

Grandison, who has been out for three months, will be one of several established first-team players travelling to Birkenhead this afternoon, along with Paul Parry, David McAllister, Rob Purdie and Tom Bradshaw.

Turner said: "(His injury) comes and goes. He gets days when his hip's OKand days when he gets a little bit of stiffness and pain."

The match will be the first of two Central League games to be played by Town's reserves in two days because of a fixture pile-up.

Shrewsbury will play a younger side against Walsall tomorrow.
