Matt Richards on Shrewsbury's released list

Shrewsbury Town captain Matt Richards is a high-profile casualty of the club's summer clearout.

The experienced midfielder is among five players who have not been offered new contracts at the Greenhous Meadow.

Strikers Marvin Morgan and Ryan Doble, along with winger Mark Wright and utility player Rob Purdie, are also heading out of the exit.

But Town boss Graham Turner has made offers to attackers Jon Taylor and Tom Bradshaw.

He also hopes that defenders Jermaine Grandison and Connor Goldson will sign new deals, along with midfielders Aaron Wildig and Ryan Woods.

Morgan's departure is not a surprise after he was omitted from Town's final games, while Wright's battle with injury during the second half of the campaign put him at a disadvantage.

Morgan tweeted: "Very disappointed to say I won't be signing a new contact at Shrewsbury Town, I would like to thank the club and fans for a great two years."

And Wright also took to social media to recall happier days: "Like to thank the club and fans for my time at Shrewsbury all the best for the future. Some great memories in my three years."

The decision to axe Richards may provoke debate, though, as he played a key role in Town's 2012 promotion campaign. He finished up as top scorer with eight goals.

But the 28-year-old, who made 93 appearances after joining from Walsall in 2011, had slipped out of the starting line-up in the closing weeks.

Now Town's attentions will turn to persuading Taylor and Grandison, who both have attracted interest from higher clubs, to pen to paper.

Midfielder Stephen McGinn plans to hold talks about his future after being told he is surplus to requirements at Watford.

The 24-year-old fought to prove his fitness after a near two-year lay-off with an impressive loan stint with own.

McGinn swill consider his options fully when he returns from a holiday. He said: "I'm just delighted how the loan has gone and how my fitness has been."

Meanwhile, Shrewsbury have pencilled in a friendly with Birmingham at the Greenhous Meadow on July 23.
