Shrewsbury Town keeper top of the stops for Graham Turner

Shrewsbury Town manager Graham Turner has hailed the performance of penalty hero Chris Weale following his stand-out display against Crawley Town on Saturday.

The Greenhous Meadow boss was delighted with his keeper's all-round performance, which also included a spectacular second-half save, in the 1-1 draw.

And he was particularly pleased with his first-half penalty save to deny Reds' four-goal top-scorer Billy Clarke after Darren Jones had fouled Nicky Adams in the box just before half-time.

"He read it well, he got a good hand to it and it was a good save," said Turner. "He's made a difference to us over the last 14 months or so since he joined us.

"And I thought it was a real good solid performance from him even allowing for the penalty save which I thought was outstanding."

Turner also praised the display of goalscorer Aaron Wildig, who put Town ahead in fine style less than two minutes into the second half.

"They talk about passing the ball into the net and it was a great finish from Aaron," he said.

"He is a good player who understands the game and he picks out the forward runs ever so well.

"He's arrived in the box well and he could have had two or three more. He's doing well for us and he does have that intelligence to pick out good forward runs."

That goal was Wildig's second of the campaign following his strike in last month's 3-1 League Cup first round defeat against Bolton Wanderers.

Meanwhile, Turner was today set to hold further discussions with Middlesbrough loanee Adam Reach and his parent club about the possibility of extending his stay at the Greenhous Meadow.

Saturday's game, of which Reach played the last four minutes, was the last of his initial month's loan.
