Shrewsbury Town's Paul Parry: I'm fighting for my spot
Shrewsbury Town attacker Paul Parry today predicted a battle with Adam Reach for the left-winger's spot in Saturday's home game against Sheffield United.
Parry was preferred to Reach in the weekend's League One game at Brentford, the previous defeat at Peterborough and two fixtures before that.
But Reach got the nod for last Tuesday's 1-1 draw at home to Colchester United, setting up the goal and again threatening as a second-half substitute at Brentford.
The 20-year-old is on loan from Championship club Middlesbrough and has had to settle for cameo roles from the bench as he looks to nail down a starting place.
But Parry expects another push from his rival and admitted he may not keep his position.
He said: "The gaffer's got players through the loan system and given himself a bit of a headache.
"I want to be out there on Saturday but if you don't put a performance in, you don't expect to keep the shirt.
"When things don't go your way, all you can do is get your head down and work hard on the training ground.
"We have got a free midweek now, time to regroup."
The 33-year-old came off the bench in the second half of the last home game at the Greenhous Meadow and gave an honest assessment of his performance at Brentford.
He said: "I was left out last week and it's not nice. When I am fit, I have been pretty much in the side. But, that said, we had three games in seven days and I am not one of the youngest in the squad.
"It's all part of squad rotation and I wouldn't say I was happy with my performance on Saturday, to be honest. It was disappointing, I thought I could have had a lot more of the ball and done more with it."
As the oldest active member of the squad, Parry has been impressed with the young players who have been pushed on since he arrived at the club in 2012.
He said: "It's a closer-knit squad with some quality coming through, the likes of Ryan Woods, Connor Goldson and Jon Taylor. Full credit to the youth system."
