Paul Parry tipped for Shrewsbury Town return against Notts County
Paul Parry was today backed to replace winger Jon Taylor as Shrewsbury Town hunt the staying power to gain maximum points from their home double-header.
The 33-year-old former Wales international has recovered from illness which kept him out of last week's 3-1 defeat at Port Vale.
With Taylor out with a knee injury, Parry is set to boost Town as they look to bounce back from successive defeats against basement side Notts County tomorrow then Oldham on Tuesday.
Central midfielder Aaron Wildig played wide right at Vale but boss Graham Turner is looking for natural winger Parry to plug the gap tomorrow.
"The one predominantly in my thoughts is Paul Parry," said Turner.
"In all probability he'd have played last week.
"Paul's got a lot of ability – he sees a pass, he's got enough quality to execute it and I think he has a calming influence.
"If we can get the ball to him, he looks after it for us, he keeps possession of it and in that respect, he's a good player to have around.
"We played Aaron Wildig wide right and I've got the option of moving him into midfield, so I can use a different side or make one or two changes for Tuesday's game against Oldham."
Town have conceded late goals to lose points against Rotherham, Crawley, Bristol City, Wolves, Bradford and Carlisle, while the third goals from Walsall and Vale came in the final few minutes.
Turner is looking for his team to see out games without leaking late goals at the back as he stressed the importance of the back-to-back home games.
"I think the frustrating part is that we've been in contention in many of the games and should have had more points on the board with the situations we've found ourselves in, particularly in the latter stages of matches," he said.
"These two home games are massively important.
"The encouraging part of it is our home record has been quite acceptable – we've taken 13 points out of 24 and if our away record was anything like as good, we'd be in a good position so therein lies the problem.
"We've got to make sure we continue our home form as we'd like and take nothing for granted against a Notts County side who have been struggling so far but have changed their manager and have got a sprinkling of decent players.
"I'm not sure their new manager (Shaun Derry) has had much time to change aspects of the side around wholesale but I'd think he's worked on one or two things.
"I'd expect them to start stringing some of improved results together but we've got to make sure it's not against us tomorrow."
