Ryan Woods: Shrewsbury Town hurting after Walsall defeat
Shrewsbury Town midfielder Ryan Woods admitted he was feeling the pain after Town's revenge mission against Walsall ended in a 1-0 defeat on Saturday.
Woods, who spent four years in the Saddlers' youth team before joining Shrewsbury's, had been hoping to turn the tables on his former club following Town's 3-0 FA Cup defeat at the Banks's Stadium five weeks earlier.
But Graham Turner's side failed to capitalise on a good start to the game on Saturday, and they were undone by a Milan Lalkovic goal eight minutes into the second half.
Woods said: "Every defeat hurts no matter who you play. Obviously it's a little bit maybe extra (painful) for me because I used to play there but at the end of the day a defeat is a defeat.
"We wanted to get one back on them because we weren't very good last time we played them. Everyone knows that but we tried our hardest on Saturday.
"For the first 60 minutes we weren't very good and once they scored we seemed to play our own game again and start passing the ball like we can.
"And we did cause them a lot of problems and made a lot of chances but unfortunately we couldn't take them.
"I couldn't really say what went wrong. Walsall are a good footballing team and they have got a lot of good players but want to win every game so we are disappointed.
"We have just got to make sure we put things right in training this week and make sure we get a result against Crewe on Saturday."
