Shrewsbury Town boss Micky Mellon expects to see defender Connor Goldson back at the club for pre-season training at the end of the month.

Goldson has yet to agree the new contract offered to him at the end of last season but Mellon has this week held talks with the promising defender.

And he is still hopeful that the Wolverhampton-born centre-back will be part of the forthcoming promotion push.

He said: "I spoke to Connor. He came in to see me the other day and I had a really good conversation with him and his agent, just speaking about his situation moving forward.

"He was happy with the conversation we had. I told him how I would like to manage and coach him, and how I believe that I could make him better, what areas we believed we could make him better in.

"I also asked him where he saw his progress going and how he was going to achieve that, so we had a really good conversation and we shook hands. I told him to enjoy the rest of his summer and I'm expecting to see him for pre-season training."

Town also offered a new contract to striker Tom Bradshaw but Mellon has not yet been able to hold talks with the player as he is still on holiday.

But Mellon reiterated his desire to retain the former Wales youth international for next season, adding: "Tom is another young player who I would like to think would want to be part of this project.

"I haven't had the chance to sit down and talk to him yet but he is a lad that I would like to be part of what we do."

Meanwhile, Mellon has been making progress in the transfer market and says he has a 'gentleman's agreement' with an unnamed player he hopes he will be able to bring in shortly.

Mellon is also working to bolster his backroom staff after bringing in Simon Howarth as a forwards coach earlier this week.
