Shrewsbury Town fans say yes to new badge
Shrewsbury Town fans have voted in favour of having a new club badge – with supporters hoping it will be in place for the start of next season.
The Shrewsbury Town Supporters' Parliament were tasked by the club in May to canvas fans' views on possibly changing the current badge, which has been used since the club moved to their new home at the Greenhous Meadow in 2007.
And a staggering 91.5 per cent of the 1,171 people canvassed said they would like to see the badge return to the old "Loggerheads" design or be given a fresh new look with supporter approval.
Mike Davis, vice chairman of the parliament, said: "The badge has been an ongoing issue ever since we moved to the new ground because a lot of fans feel it doesn't link to our history.
"Last season the club tasked the parliament to go out and canvass opinion about whether a change was needed and from our survey 91.5 per cent of people voted in favour of change.
"We worked very closely with the football club to get the vote done and the club allowed us to use their survey system to reach as many fans as possible. The results are pretty unanimous so we'll have to see what happens now."
Members of the parliament presented the findings to Shrewsbury chief executive Matt Williams.
And Mr Davis said he hopes the club and the parliament will continue to work together with a new badge hopefully in place for the start of next season.
He said: "Matt Williams has worked with us on this.
"A lot of fans would like to go back to the old Loggerheads design or we would be happy if the club put some designs together which the fans could vote on.
"A new home strip is due out next season so that would be the perfect time."
On the pitch, meanwhile, defender Mark Ellis has praised the medical staff for helping him back from injury – and revealed his wife also played a part in his earlier than expected return.
Initial fears were that the 25-year-old would miss around six weeks, but the former Crewe man slotted back into the side for Tuesday night's Johnstone's Paint Trophy clash with Preston.
"I've got to give credit to the physio Chris Skitt," Ellis said. "I've been lucky too because my wife is a physiotherapist and I had some acupuncture treatment."
