Fans get chance to pick new Shrewsbury Town badge

Shrewsbury Town supporters now have their chance to shape the club's history by voting for a new team badge.

Last month it was revealed that fan power had won the day with the club promising to restore the traditional 'Loggerheads' crest following a campaign by the Supporters Parliament.

A staggering 91.5 per cent of the 1,171 people canvassed said they would like to see the badge return to the old design or be given a fresh new look incorporating the traditional features.

And now fans can choose their favourite from four designs which are more in keeping with the club's history.

Town chief executive Matt Williams said: "It has been good to be able to sit down with the Supporters Parliament and work hand in hand with them to create a badge that the Shrewsbury Town fans will take to their hearts.

"We believe we have come up with four designs that Town fans will be happy with.

"Now it is their chance to help shape the club's history.

"Once the votes are collected the winner will be announced and we will start the process to kick off the 2015/16 season with the new badge on the players' shirts."

Shrewsbury's current badge has been used since the club moved to their new home at the Greenhous Meadow in 2007.

Mike Davis, vice-chairman of the parliament, said he is delighted fans can now choose a badge of which they can be proud.

He said: "I'm very pleased we have now got to the stage where badges can be voted on by the fans.

"We asked the club for badges that incorporated 1886, Floreat Salopia and the loggerheads. So while all the badges are similar we are very happy with what is on offer.

"I personally would like to thank the club including Matt Williams and the chairman for their support during this process.

"Rebranding a football club isn't a small task but I'm delighted that we will soon have a badge that represents the history of the club.

"It's taken seven years to get to this stage, so please don't let the chance to vote slip away."

Fans can vote online now at www.surveymonkey.com/s/stfcbadge with voting slips soon to be released at the ground.

Closing date for all votes is October 21 after the home game against Bury.
