Anthony Griffith kicking on with Shrewsbury
Midfield enforcer Anthony Griffith believes he is continually developing as a footballer since signing for Shrewsbury Town in the summer.
The former Leyton Orient player was handed his first start in League Two, as Town picked up a vital away win at struggling York City.
And the tough-tackler impressed with an all-action display as he looked to take his chance with James Wesolowski suspended and Liam Lawrence injured.
He said: "I was pleased with my performance against York. I have watched a lot of games from the bench and I'm not the type of person to just sit there and be in a mood.
"I'm taking a lot out of the games and trying to look at what I can add when I get the chance. I was just so pleased we got the win and to be given the opportunity to show the gaffer some appreciation for signing me."
With competition in centre midfield fierce, Griffith has been doing extra to win a place in the side and believes he can offer a lot – especially away form home.
He said: "At home the gaffer has got his system and it has worked brilliantly. I understand we need to stick together. Everyone wants to play but only 11 can start.
"But behind the scenes I have been doing extra work and I think away from home I can offer a lot in the defensive midfield role.
"I am learning all the time, the manager has given me confidence because I didn't come through an academy.
"I have had to learn my trade in the is league. I have done the rounds a little bit but being here is really enjoyable because I'm learning a lot and playing with some fantastic players like Ryan Woods and now Bobby Grant."
Griffith added he was impressed with the team performance at York which secured Town's first away win in the league this season.
He said: "We remained patient, we kept our heads and eventually we got that vital goal. We controlled the game."
