The 19-year-old Shrewsbury Town stopper, from Newport, is highly thought of in the corridors of Greenhous Meadow.

A former England Under-18 international, Burton is number three at Town behind Jayson Leutwiler and Mark Halstead.

He is looking for a loan move to get match sharpness in pursuit of his goal of eventually breaking into the Town first team.

"Ideally I'd like to go out on loan. Whether it's the Conference or the Conference North, I just need to get some game time," said Burton.

"I need first- team experience and I feel I need to get that as soon as possible.

"I'm a Shropshire lad, I've been a Shrewsbury fan all my life and all I want to do is break into the first team.

"I just need game time and a bit more experience so I can keep working towards that."

Fellow Town goalkeeper Halstead recently hailed Burton as the most talented young stopper he has worked with.

"It's always nice to hear compliments like that, especially coming from a one of your peers who you work with every day," Burton said.

"The biggest compliment for a player is another player saying how highly he thinks of him so that was great.

"It's great for me training and learning from both Jayson and Mark every day.

"We work well together, we help each other out and I can feel myself getting better. I just need game time to get that experience."

The former Adams Grammar School pupil also believes training with the England youth set-up has aided his development.

He said: "Being with England was an amazing experience. When I got called up for the national team I was over the moon.

"We played Belgium, Hungry and Croatia, which was a great challenge.

"But it was also great for me to be training with lads who are at Chelsea and Man City. It was great to test myself against them."

Ahead of Town's visit to Exeter in League Two today, Salop No.1 Leutwiler added: "In every club I've been to there's a goalkeeper clique – you need that," said Leutwiler. "It's a different position but we are a part of the team as well. We like to have a joke between ourselves."
