Following Joe Hart at Shrewsbury Town not an issue for Callum Burton
Talented goalkeeper Callum Burton will not let the shadow of England No.1 Joe Hart hang over him as he looks to build his Shrewsbury Town career.
While Hart was coming up against Bayern Munich in the Champions League last night, 19-year-old Burton is just beginning life as a professional at Greenhous Meadow.
But with both goalkeepers being born in Shropshire and with Burton recently receiving international recognition with the England Under-18s, compressions between the two will inevitably follow.
Burton, though, is just concentrating on his own game, saying: "The Joe Hart stuff doesn't weigh on my shoulders – I don't let it because every player is different," he said.
"No player is going to rise to the top in the same way, you will never have two identical careers.
"There are going to be comparisons but he got the opportunity to play a lot earlier in his career and appeared for Shrewsbury in the Conference and League Two.
"What I need to do is just concentrate on my game. I need to work hard to improve so I will get my chance in the first team."
The former Adams Grammar School pupil is currently No.3 at Town behind Jayson Leutwiler and Mark Halstead and last week revealed he is hoping to go out on loan to gain first team experience.
But the keeper is still enjoying learning from both Leutwiler and Halstead in training.
"I'm happy with my progress so far this season, we have a really good bunch with the keepers.
"Myself, Jayson and Mark work well together and we help each other out in training. I can feel myself getting better.
"I am learning a lot. Jayson is the first continental keeper I have ever worked with and has a lot of different techniques that I'm picking up."
Meanwhile, the teenager admitted he used to bunk off rugby lessons at school to prevent himself from getting injured.
He added: "I went to Adams but all I've ever wanted to do is play for Shrewsbury. Adams is really rugby orientated so I used to skive off rugby to prevent injuries. I never wanted to miss a Shrewsbury game!"
