Shrewsbury Town midfielder Andy Robinson is taking some time away from the club to consider his future.

The former Tranmere Rovers man, who joined Town in pre-season after impressing on trial, has been struggling to recover from a knee injury.

He has not featured for the first team since August 30 where he appeared as a second-half substitute in the team's 2-0 home win over Luton Town.

Last week manager Micky Mellon said that Robinson was not seeing any progress with his injury.

But he has since revealed that the player also has issues in his private life and the club is giving him time to come to a decision about his future.

Asked what the latest was regarding Robinson' situation, Mellon said: "It is still the same. We are still in the same position.

"Robbo has got a lot on at the minute and he wants to have some time away to think about what he wants to do next with his life, so it is important that we respect that," said Mellon.

"He is making decisions about his future and we should know more about that very soon.

"He is just taking some time away.

"He has got an awful lot on not just with his injury but things in his private life that will stay there.

"He has got a lot of sorting out to do and a lot of thinking to do and he will come to a decision when he is ready to do that.

Mellon added that despite enduring limited game time, Robinson has been a great professional during his time at the Greenhous Meadow.

He said: "He is a great lad and he is a personal friend as well. He's a lad that I know very well and have done for a long time.

"It is important that we can give him the time to decide what he wants to do."

Robinson has made just three appearances for the club this season.

He featured from the substitutes' bench in the club's 4-0 League Two success over Accrington Stanley as well as their Capital One Cup giant-killing against Premier Division outfit Leicester City prior to his appearance against The Hatters.
