Town were never going to sell Ryan Woods
Shrewsbury Town manager Micky Mellon has praised the way star midfielder Ryan Woods has handled talk over his future.
The talented 21-year-old has been in outstanding form this season, with Premier League West Ham believed to have had two bids rejected during the January transfer window.
And Mellon has been impressed by the way the youth team graduate has handled all the attention.
He said: "When it comes to Ryan Woods. his performances speak for themselves.
"He has managed to stay focused throughout the entire month, even though there has been loads of speculation flying around.
"That will make him even more attractive to suitors and we have to credit him for the way he has handled everything.
"But he has never been under any illusions that he is going anywhere. We never, for one second, wanted him to leave and that has been made clear.
"We are in the middle of a project that lasts until the summer, when we can re-address. Nobody was going to leave because the project continues."
Mellon always lets his players know if a club makes a move, saying: "I believe you have to. We are talking about their lives and their careers.
"But, at the start of the season, I told them straight away about the project and what we wanted to achieve. They all knew we didn't want anyone to leave in this window."
