VIDEO: Mark Ellis sets a marker for Town
"There are 10 games of the season remaining and there's absolutely no reason why we can't stay unbeaten for all 10."
The intent from commanding centre-back Mark Ellis is clear as Shrewsbury Town look to re-ignite their title dreams at Morecambe tonight.
Saturday's lacklustre display in the 1-0 defeat to promotion rivals Wycombe has seen Town drop to third in the League Two table – five points behind leaders Burton.
Perhaps more concerning for the Salop faithful was the manner of the defeat, with Shrewsbury second best from the moment they fell behind to Sam Wood's 39th-second header.
But Ellis insists the spirit in the Shrewsbury camp remains strong as they look to begin an unbeaten run that will hopefully end with silverware.
"We have been on some great runs this season and there is no reason why we can't do that again for the last 10 games," Ellis said.
"That has to be the aim. Tonight's game can't come quickly enough. Credit to the lads, they came in for training yesterday, we had a chat and we have put Wycombe behind us.
"We now all have that fire back in the belly. We want to put it right and there couldn't be a better time to get back to winning ways.
"The finishing line is in sight and we cannot worry about what is in the past. We won't dwell and we will go to Morecambe to win the game."
While keen to move on quickly from the Wycombe game, Ellis insists it's important Town learn from their mistakes on the day.
"We are all massively disappointed with that performance," the former Crewe defender said.
"The standard was nowhere near what we are capable of and going behind after 40 seconds isn't good for anybody. It did affect us.
"But credit to Wycombe – they had a game plan and they stuck with it. A lot of teams are trying to stop us play.
"They have worked out what we are good at but it's up to us to find another way. Winning is all that matters."
Having kept 20 clean sheets in 40 games, Town's defensive resolve hasn't been as strong in recent weeks with at least one goal conceded in their last five outings.
And Ellis admits getting that solid base back is vital for Shrewsbury.
"I think as a unit we have been very solid but we need to get back to keeping clean sheets because we have conceded too many in the last five games," he said.
"I think Jermaine (Grandison), Connor (Goldson) and I work well and we pride ourselves on keeping clean sheets.
"It's difficult to pinpoint why the goals have crept in. Maybe it's a lack of concentration or not communicating enough.
"We need to get back to how we were defending earlier in the season though because we know if we do our job, the strikers will score goals and win us games."
Morecambe haven't enjoyed the best form in front of their own supporters this season and slipped to a 1-0 defeat to rock-bottom Hartlepool at the Globe Arena on Saturday.
And Ellis knows as much as Town are looking for a reaction, the Shrimps will be the same.
"It's going to be a tough game, we know that," Ellis said. "They will probably still believe they have an outside chance of making the play-offs so it's going to be a battle but it's one that we are ready for.
"They gave us a good go when we played them back in December. We managed to nick it through a late Andy Mangan goal and we might need to do the same again.
"But we will travel up there with the right spirit and mind set. We are determined to bounce back and win the game."
