Bobby Grant opens Shrewsbury Town talks

Shrewsbury Town have opened talks with former Blackpool loanee Bobby Grant following his release from the crisis-torn Bloomfield Road club.

Grant spent most of last season on loan at the Greenhous Meadow, helping Town to promotion from League Two.

The 24-year-old, who played 36 games and scored six goals, made no secret of his desire to return to the club.

And following his release by the relegated Seasiders on Tuesday, Town chief executive Matt Williams said: "We have had a conversation with Bobby's agent.

"We know what he is all about; he's a good lad, a good footballer and conversations are ongoing."

But Town have several other irons in the fire and Williams said they have been inundated with calls regarding potential signings following their promotion from League Two.

He said: "Every day we are being offered players.

"We are speaking to a lot of players and you want to make sure you get the right players on the right deal, which does take some time to get over the line.

"We have missed out on one target because of a location issue.

"He felt that the club he went to was better, location-wise, from his current base and he wouldn't have to relocate.

"But you dust yourself down and go again.

"I have been on the phone to an agent yesterday whose client would love to play for us.

"He's just been released by a Championship club; he likes the way we play and his agent rang in to see if we would be interested.

"We get that because of the way that our manager Micky Mellon is, the brand of football we play and the type of club it is, the facilities we have got. It is an easy sell.

"We just need to make sure that the players we recruit are as good, if not better, than the ones we already have."
