Cole arrived at the Greenhous Meadow from Fulham on deadline day, as star midfielder Woods departed to Brentford.
The former Manchester United youngster, who can play anywhere across the middle, is with Town until January.
And boss Micky Mellon is prepared to throw him straight in to the League One clash away to Barnsley on Saturday.
