Town would consider a Goldson return
Manager Micky Mellon admits he would bring defender Connor Goldson back to Shrewsbury Town if it was the right move.
Goldson hasn't played since his £600,000-plus move to Brighton and the 22-year-old has had to be content with Under-21s football.
Uwe Hunemeier and Gordon Greer have been boss Chris Hughton's preferred centre-back partnership with Lewis Dunk on the bench.
Town boss Mellon watched Goldson play for the Seagulls' development side at Aston Villa last week, although he was on a separate intelligence-gathering mission.
Shrewsbury fans have speculated online whether the former Town vice-captain could return to the Greenhous Meadow on loan.
He has failed to appear in the Championship leaders' match-day squad for the five games before today's trip to Wolves.
Mellon insists no return of Goldson has been discussed after successfully reverting to three central defenders since the player's sale, but he would consider it.
The Town boss said: "I've no doubt he'll burst his way into that team but if they're not going to play him and we need a centre-half like him and it all fits, of course we'd bring him back.
"I'll only bring players in which we need, but I'll look at every situation and if I think I can bring so-and-so back and he's going to make us better, I'm sure that's what the Shrewsbury fans want.
"If I think there isn't a player here who I can move forward and make better, I'll try to bring them in. I'll get them myself in the car.
"But it's really hypothetical - it's like asking 'would I bring Joe Hart back?'Iif he lost his place at Manchester City."
Mellon added: "I watched Connor last week when I went to see Aston Villa Under-21s against Brighton Under-21s, although I didn't go because of that.
"I always do my due diligence on every team - I could tell you the Under-21s teams at Villa, Brighton, Wolves, Everton and Manchester United because that's my job and we've watched them all this week.
"We bring all that information together and we speak about all those players - it's a case of 'what if this happened - oh, so-and-so has got him, so keep an eye on him for next time'."
Mellon insists Goldson will win a place at Brighton - because he's too good not to.
The Shrews chief added: "He'll kick on there. He's not playing at the moment, but he was like a man among boys in their Under-21s.
"He's moved way ahead of that level but it shows you how strong their group is, if they keep a player like that out of their first-team."
