Micky Mellon criticises Town finishing

Manager Micky Mellon has criticised Shrewsbury Town's poor finishing after their woeful home form continued.

Town dominated after Adam King's first-minute winner for Crewe following Jermaine Grandison's mistake.

But they couldn't respond as Jordan Clark hit the bar, Larnell Cole forced two saves and sub James Collins glanced off target.

Shrewsbury – the best home side in the country last season – have now lost five straight league games in front of their own fans going back to May, one off the club record from January 2014.

And Mellon said: "We had numerous opportunities to get back into the game and weren't good enough to put the ball in the net.

"When we got into dangerous areas, we maybe just lacked that killer instinct to find someone in the box. I couldn't fault the effort but we got into that final third, we weren't quite clinical enough."

Mellon admitted he has never felt as frustrated in his time at Town, adding: "This was probably the most frustrating afternoon I've had here.

"To give a goal away so early and so easily wasn't in the plan. Let's get it straight - I cannot believe Crewe won. If anyone said anything different, they watched a completely different game.

"Crewe can find themselves unbelievably fortunate. That's not me showing them a lack of respect, that's just my overall view."

Tyrone Barnett was limping at one stage, but Mellon insists he wasn't taking off through injury.

He said: "There was no problem with Tyrone. Jean-Louis (Akpa Akpro) has come on in the past and given us a different threat. Then, as the game went on, we tried to get more attacking players on."

One of them was new loan signing from Crystal Palace, Sullay Kaikai, who replaced Mat Sadler after 67 minutes for his debut.
