Michael van Gerwen ready for Town return
Shrewsbury Town will welcome back a sharp-shooter of a different kind this week when darts ace Michael van Gerwen returns to the club.
The former world champion and fellow PDC player Andy Hamilton will be at the Meadow for the Greenhous Masters on Thursday night, writes Craig Birch.
Van Gerwen - at just 26 - became only the second player to reach £1million in prize money on the Order of Merit this year, after Phil Taylor.
'MvG' comes to town fresh from winning the European Darts Trophy in Austria, where Newport's David Pallett reached the semi-finals.
The Dutchman wowed the crowd on his first visit to Shropshire last October, starring alongside Mark Webster in a fun-filled exhibition.
Now he's back with 'the Hammer' Hamilton - who has 18 wins to van Gerwen's 20 competitively between the two - in the Sovereign Lounge.
Van Gerwen said: "I am really looking forward to playing against Andy in Shrewsbury. It should be a great night and he's a top player, so I will have to be at my best to beat him.
"We have had some fantastic battles in the past and I'm sure we will put on a great show for the crowd. I'm also looking forward to meeting and playing against some of the fans.
"I have played in Shrewsbury before and there were some brilliant players. They are proper darts fans and I'm very happy to be coming back."
Tickets are still available for Thursday night's exhibition, either through the Box Office on 01743 273 943 or online here.
