Town's Akpa Akpro after double figures
Goal hero Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro has targeted double figures and praised Larnell Cole as the 'perfect' creator after Shrewsbury Town ended their home woes.
The Frenchman's brace – his first goals of the season – saw Town beat Blackpool 2-0 on Saturday to end a run of five straight league defeats at the Greenhous Meadow.
And, after making it 40 career league goals, 30-year-old Akpa Akpro wants to overhaul last season's tally of nine.
He said: "All I want to do is play as often as possible, get as many chances as I can.
"I hope by the end of the season I can beat the nine goals I scored last season because I should have had more than that," he said.
"I think you can think too much about things when you should just do it. I got a few goals in pre-season but they don't count unfortunately, so it's been a long time since I've scored.
"I've had a few opportunities as substitute, but I haven't been clinical. But, on Saturday, I was and now it's up to me to be clinical all the time."
Both goals were set up by Cole and Akpa Akpro praised the on-loan Fulham man's ability to carve defences open.
The Toulouse-born forward said: "Everything was perfect – the passes, the timing and the runs.
"Both my goals were quite similar. Larnell picked out my runs and showed great timing to put me through for the first one.
"His timing for the second one was even better because he had to put it between two players. Larnell, Sullay Kaikai and Jordan Clark have made a massive difference."
Town prepare to hit the road with three away games in a week, starting with Rochdale tomorrow, having won three in four in the league.
Akpa Akpro added: "Hopefully, we can keep that positive run going. By winning at home, we've stopped the damage here."
