Jordan Clark can see Town running riot

Midfielder Jordan Clark is convinced Shrewsbury Town are going to give someone in League One a "real battering."

And the man known as 'Clicker' is convinced he and Larnell Cole can join Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro and score the goals to fire Town at seventh-placed Coventry.

Akpa Akpro has been involved in all of Town's last four goals, scoring and winning a penalty against former club Rochdale in Tuesday's 3-2 defeat after bagging a brace against Blackpool.

By contrast, Clark has netted once this term – the memorable last-minute winner at Barnsley – and Cole is yet to get off the mark.

Town make the short trip to the Ricoh Arena tomorrow looking to build another impressive away run, after Rochdale ended their four-match unbeaten travelling sequence on Tuesday night.

And, after creating numerous chances in recent games, Clark believes those opportunities will soon produce goals for himself and Cole.

The versatile 22-year-old attacker said: "We've had a lot of chances but we just need that bit of quality. I think soon the goals are going to flood in and a team is going to get a real battering.

"I always aim for 10 goals each season, but I need to keep working hard and putting the effort in on the training ground to achieve that and take my chances when they come

"I go into games trying to help others score and to set people up, but I don't look at tallies as such – I just try to get as many as I can.

Clark and Cole have clicked together, as well as forming an exciting attacking partnership with wide men Sullay Kaikai and Akpa Akpro in recent games.

Clark said: "I'm working well with Larnell – we've clicked together playing behind the strikers.

"He's a really good player – he's sharp and if he gets half a yard on a defender, he gets his shots off, so I don't think it will be long until he gets his first goal.

"He's really positive going forwards so I think as soon as he gets one goal, he'll get more because his confidence will continue to grow.

"I know him from the past and he's a very good player and we're on the same wavelength.

"It's working really well, from recently playing three at the back and with the wing-backs, and now with 4-1-2-3."

Although they have lost their last two away games, Coventry are unbeaten this season at the Ricoh where they have dropped just two points out of 12.

But watching Sky Blues boss Tony Mowbray will have noted Town's fluid attacking style in midweek, and Clark reveals the players have worked on different things in training to stretch the opposition.

He said: "We've worked on a few things such as losing our marker and making runs for crosses. We've also practised making two runs instead of one – just little things which we can improve on."
