Andy Mangan close to Shrewsbury return

Andy Mangan is set to return to Shrewsbury Town and they are close to extending Larnell Cole's loan - but Abu Ogogo has been ruled out for up to six weeks.

The way for Mangan's return has been paved by the return of Liam McAlinden to Wolves, after his loan ended.

There could also be a mystery un-named departure - but it's not club captain Liam Lawrence.

Mangan has agreed to return on loan six months after leaving for non-league side Tranmere, where his contract is up in the summer.

The 29-year-old striker - popular with Town fans for scoring against Chelsea and Leicester in the Capital One Cup last season - is understood to have fallen out with Rovers boss Gary Brabin.

Mangan hit 10 goals for Town as they were promoted last term and netted seven in 22 outings for Tranmere, including 16 starts.

The Scouser's return will be the third time boss Micky Mellon has signed him after taking him to Fleetwood and Shrewsbury.

Cole is set to remain with Town for the rest of the season with the paperwork about to be completed with Fulham.

Chief executive Matt Williams said: "We're looking to freshen the squad up and hopefully there will be a number of arrivals and a few going out of the door.

"The Andy Mangan deal should get done in the next few days as will, hopefully, Larnell Cole.

"We've got the paperwork through for Cole and talks remain ongoing but we're confident we'll extend his loan for the rest of the season."

Unwanted trio Mickey Demetriou, Mark Ellis and James Caton are back after their stays at Cambridge, Carlisle and Wrexham respectively expired.

But only Ellis looks like going anywhere at present, with Williams adding: "Talks remain ongoing with Carlisle to extend his loan or make it a permanent move. It's been a busy day."

Meanwhile, Ogogo has been ruled out for between four and six weeks with a hamstring strain.

Town's only ever-present was forced off 29 minutes into Saturday's 7-1 drubbing at Chesterfield.

Anthony Gerrard's hamstring injury isn't as serious and he could be available for Sunday's FA Cup third round tie at former club Cardiff.
