Micky Mellon: I'll pick up Town's players

Manager Micky Mellon is confident he can pick Shrewsbury Town's players up and avoid any post-Manchester United blues.

Town will try to avoid a case of 'after the Lord Mayor's Show' on Saturday.

They resume their League One survival quest at rock-bottom Colchester after Monday's 3-0 FA Cup loss to United.

Shrewsbury are seeking to escape the relegation zone after Fleetwood's 2-1 win over Scunthorpe last weekend put them back in the bottom four on goal difference.

Boss Mellon believes it won't be hard to re-focus his players, saying: "We were always realistic about our expectations of how the evening would go.

"You only had to look at the team-sheet to see United had some fantastic players right the way through their side. We always knew a lot of things would have to go for us for there to be a different outcome.

"It's vital now we get the players rested and back to what's important which is getting prepared now for a big game on Saturday."

Mellon believes falling into the drop zone again has sharpened their focus, continuing: "It's not a bad reminder that we've still got an awful lot of work to do, but we'll keep focused like we always do."

Town welcome back cup-tied pair Richie Wellens and Kyle Vassell, while latest signing Elliot Grandin will also be keen for some action after two games as an unused substitute.

In addition, Mellon will assess whether James Wallace is ready for a recall after a knee injury kept him out of the United clash.
