James Wesolowski is given all-clear to return for Shrewsbury Town

Shrewsbury Town midfielder James Wesolowski has had the all-clear to play again – and has targeted a first-team return soon after, claiming "I owe the club".

The 28-year-old midfielder has been out since September after rupturing his cruciate ligament for the second time.

But after an operation, months of rehabilitation and several weeks' training with the first team, he has had the green light to resume his career. Wesolowski has pencilled in the reserve game at home to Bradford at Shrewsbury Sports Village next Tuesday (2pm) to make his comeback.

"I went to see the specialist the other day and and he gave me the all-clear," said the Aussie.

"It was pretty much what we were expecting because everything has gone to plan, but it's always nice to hear it's ready to go."

Wesolowski, who is out of contract this summer, admits he has unfinished business with Town and is determined to play his part in the survival bid.

"I want to help the team out because I owe that to the club," he said.

"So with 10 games to go I'm looking to push it and to play a few matches before the end of the season.

"We're in good form so hopefully we can keep that going and I can help out."

After suffering the injury for a second time, Wesolowski is understandably more cautious about stepping up too quickly.

"I've got to be smart and make sure I'm right because if I do it again, it will be a big disaster. So I'm going to be more cautious," he said.

"This time I've focused more on certain things I didn't do as well as before, such as getting my leg straight (earlier)."

Manager Micky Mellon is delighted to see Wesolowski back in action.

"There's not many who would have the drive and desire," said the boss.

"But it's also great credit to the medical people for getting him back so quickly.

"It's like signing a new player.

"He's certainly one of the best here so it will be great to have him back."
